Toward Resilient Recreational Fisheries 

 

The 6th World Recreational Fishing Conference (WRFC) to be held in 2011 at the Humboldt-University in Berlin (Germany) follows the tradition of five previous international scientific conferences dealing specifically with recreational fishing. This series of conferences attended by delegates from across the world is aimed at increasing dialogue and knowledge about the diversity, dynamics and future prospects of recreational fisheries. Accordingly, the 6th WRFC in Berlin aims at providing a platform for exchange of and discussion on cutting-edge management-orientated recreational fisheries science. 0457_bearbTo facilitate multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives and to increase the ability of researchers and managers to understand different scientific approaches and appreciate potentially divergent perspectives, it is aimed at attracting delegates from a wide range of scientific disciplines, governamental and non-governamental organizations and various stakeholder groups, including avid anglers. Key concepts and approaches from diverse scientific disciplines and from management practice shall be presented orally or in form of posters by leading scientists, active managers and representatives of the angling community. The proceedings of this conference will be published in the interntional, peer-reviewed literature.

In conclusion, the 6th WRFC held in Berlin in August, 2011 strives at attracting insights, findings, experiences and knowledge from across the world to build bridges over disciplinary, spatial (e.g., geographic and cultural) and emotional divides. The overall goal is to stimulate growth of new or improved mosaics of interdisciplinary knowledge interfaces capable of improving the governance and resiliency of recreational fisheries as social-ecological systems.
